Iowa State University Teaching Hospital & Diagnostic Lab Renovation
Iowa State University | Ames, IA
West Plains Engineering collaborated with ED2 International to provide mechanical and electrical design, and construction administrative services for the first phase of the renovation of the College of Veterinary Medicine project.
The first phase was a 120,000 square foot addition that includes a large animal isolation unit, an equine and large animal intensive care unit with in-patient ward and surgical facility, and office space. This facility allows faculty and staff to maintain and expand their research efforts. Also, a 16,000 square foot performance evaluation facility was designed as a separate, stand-alone building under a concurrent project.
The existing 420,000 square foot building received a new pharmacy and the BSL-2 lab/necropsy area was renovated to provide BSL-3 level containment for laboratory animal and necropsy procedures.
Building site utilities were replaced and upgraded to accommodate the new addition. In conjunction with this project was an overall master plan for renovation and expansion to the College of Veterinary Medicine
