Iowa State University Performance Evaluation Facility

Iowa State University | Ames, IA

West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for the College of Veterinary Medicine Performance Evaluation Facility & Farrier Building at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. This project consisted of a classroom for students to learn how to craft horseshoes, a remote services stall and a performance evaluation arena. Forges were used to craft the horseshoes in the classroom, so we used louvers to provide make-up air along with exhaust fans for ventilation in the facilities. The University provided unit heaters to maintain a comfortable temperature. The performance evaluation arena was constructed with operable louvers to provide natural ventilation of this space. The electrical design included power, data, fire alarm and lighting.
