On Nov. 1, several members of the West Plains Engineering team in Cedar Rapids spent the afternoon serving lunch at Mission of Hope – a local non-profit committed to offering physical, emotional and spiritual support to those in need.

West Plains was also proud to make a $1,000 donation to the organization through our new “Ways to Give” corporate philanthropy program. Mike Hessman, P.E., a mechanical engineer in our Cedar Rapids office, nominated Mission of Hope to receive the contribution for his office and presented the check to the organization’s executive director Kim Rheem, along with WPE drafter Richard Panton and administrative assistant Becky Kramer.

Mission of Hope works to love others by providing a wide range of free services, including meals, men’s/women’s shelters, Bible studies, a food pantry, emergency clothing and support services. Mike is a regular volunteer for the organization, and nominated them through the “Ways to Give” program to help further their good work.

West Plains Engineering “Ways to Give” was launched in 2018 with the goal of empowering employees to make a difference in their local communities. Not only does each have a voice in selecting causes for our firm to support financially, but each is also recognized and rewarded for getting out and participating in local events and initiatives that are personally important to them.

Congratulations to Mission of Hope and thank you to Mike (and the rest of the Cedar Rapids staff) for making a difference!
