Anamoose-Drake Elementary School is located approximately 65 miles southeast of Minot and houses 104 students. Like many rural school districts in the state, their administration faces the financial challenges of maintaining a building constructed nearly 75 years ago.

The district hired H.A. Thompson and Son (Bismarck) to replace some key components of the heating and ventilation system. H.A. Thompson and Son turned to West Plains Engineering to investigate and calculate energy savings associated with the replacement of old ventilation equipment and heating system control components.

Our building modeling and calculations were used as a key component in helping Anamoose apply for and receive the State Energy Conservation Grant.

“After visiting with vendors, we found it to be financially feasible to completely upgrade all classroom heating systems and adding cooling would not make a drastic increase in costs. Working with our vendor and West Plains Engineering, we were able to secure some energy efficiency grants which allowed us to determine that this was feasible given our financial situation. This new system will much improve our energy efficiency and most importantly allow us to make our classrooms more comfortable for our students and teachers.” – Steve Heim, Superintendent
