West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for a new Outdoor Campus that features office space for the South Dakota Game Fish & Parks Region 1 headquarters, public and interactive education spaces,and a 30 acre outdoor environment for public use and education. The mechanical systems utilized a geothermal heat pump system throughout the building with air to air heat exchangers to maximize efficiency. Water efficient plumbing fixtures were installed for water conservation. New electrical systems include power distribution, voiSDGFP_Outdoor_Campus_West_3_rock_roomce/data, interior lighting, site lighting and fire alarm system. The lighting energy efficiency is achieved utilizing high efficient fluorescent indirect/pendant light fixtures throughout the building to maximize lighting efficacy. Exterior lighting utilized maximum cutoff light fixtures to surpass LEED dark sky requirements. Day lighting sensors were added for areas to adjust the interior lighting levels as natural light changes in the space. New construction also included a Maintenance Shop with office and lab space. The site includes a cold storage building and fuel island with dispensers and above ground fuel tanks. The main building is LEED Gold certified.
