Camp Dodge Electrical Distribution Upgrades | Johnston, IA
West Plains Engineering is currently supporting the Iowa Army National Guard on a comprehensive upgrade to the campus electrical distribution infrastructure at Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA.
The project is being divided into multiple phases to accommodate budgets and the ability to maintain secure operations.
Phase 1 includes all the work associated with the main 15kV switchgear, including the main source feeder from SW 70th Ave and the structure it would be housed within. Also, the loop ties and controls could be added at the same time or separately depending on funding.
Phase 2 includes the new loops for the Joint Force Headquarters Building and Loop 3 along Range and Division Roads for future loads and redistribution of existing building loads. A solar tie feeder can be added during this phase or once the solar farm has been initiated.
Phases 3A and 3B are the first part of the generation phases. Phase 3A includes two – 1MW Micro-turbines and associated 5000A switchgear and micro-grid controls. It also includes the fuel system tank, pump, and piping for one set of generators.
