Historic Franklin Hotel

Main Level & Basement Remodel | Deadwood, SD

West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for the Historic Franklin Hotel remodel in Deadwood, SD. The remodel was a design-build project for the originally constructed 1903 four-story hotel.  The project consisted of the renovation of the main level and basement for gaming, dining and kitchen services, as well as a complete system upgrade of the existing MEP infrastructure of the entire facility.

The mechanical design included the demolition of the existing steam boiler system and associated radiators with a new heating and cooling system, as well as new domestic water distribution. The new heating and cooling system consisted of hydronic boilers and fluid cooler serving various air-handling equipment with dedicated fresh air capabilities.

The new electrical system included fire alarm, power distribution, and lighting.
