West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical services for a 2,400 square foot addition to

house a new MRI Unit at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center. Design included mechanical and electrical infrastructure to support and connect the new MRI equipment.

The mechanical design required installation and connection of two chiller systems, one for the cooling of the MRI unit itself and the second to serve the loads of the new addition and other MRI equipment loads. Design also included extension of medical gas systems and alarms.

The electrical design required an in depth review of the new MRI equipment and interconnection drawings to provide necessary interconnections from the MRI unit to the computer room and the control work station. The system also had a special interactive Audio/Video system that required additional connections. The primary electrical system was extended to a new pad mounted transformer and a new electrical service was installed for the MRI addition and the associated equipment. Special systems included telecommunications; fire alarm; nurse call and code blue.
