The new solar PV array at Luther College was designed to produce approximately 10 percent of the school’s annual electricity consumption. Luther College is nationally recognized as one of the top 10 colleges for campus sustainability.
The 950 kW solar array also features a 360 kW lithium-ion energy storage system, which discharges power during periods of peak consumption. The $2.3 million project is expected to produce 1.2 kWh of electricity annually, resulting in a 4% reduction in the campus carbon footprint, and $1 million in savings over the 25-year life of the system.
