South Dakota State University

Harding Hall Renovation | Brookings, SD

This 30,000 square foot building was originally built in the 1950s but was converted into the new home of the university’s business program, including the Bloomberg Business Lab, faculty space, and classrooms.

Each floor of the interior was demolished and built back into offices and classrooms with entirely new plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.

The HVAC design included the campus’s first energy-efficient active chilled beam system, which utilized campus chilled water and steam. With this system, ductwork could be downsized to fit within the tight building height constraints while still providing temperature control for each space.
