Lincoln Hall Renovation | Brookings, SD

Many universities are challenged with how to make upgrades and renovations within an existing building that will both retain its character, while making it functional for students and faculty. This was the challenge facing South Dakota State University as it considered what to do with Lincoln Hall.

Built in 1927 as a library and then renovated to house the Music Department in 1979, the needed to be outfitted with systems to support modern learning. With no clear vision for how to move forward, the University chose to begin with a comprehensive planning and programming phase. What resulted as a plan for modernizing the building with new elements, all while maintaining the original historic details of the space.

In addition to the architectural upgrades and realignment, all mechanical, plumbing and electrical services in the building were removed and replaced with new, high effiency options.
