Surgical Hospital Expansion | Sioux Falls, SD
West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for a series of projects at the Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. These projects included a three-story addition of patient rooms, step-down care facilities to the existing Surgical Hospital, office spaces and the remodel of a portion of the first floor.
This project involved installing a new HVAC and plumbing systems for the addition. The HVAC systems incorporated modular air handling units that serve variable air boxes throughout each floor. HEPA filtration and humidification were added to the unit serving the patient floor. Cooling was provided by a new roof-mounted chiller and heating was provided by a modular boiler plant consisting of three high-efficiency boilers with reheat coils in the VAV boxes, radiant ceiling panels, and cabinet unit heaters.
New water service was provided with a commercial, high-efficiency water heater with a storage tank installed to provide domestic hot water for the addition. The existing medical gas system was extended from the existing facility into the new patient rooms.
The electrical room was filled with dry type transformer and panelboards. With the addition to the existing SF Surgical Center, a new separate electrical service was installed including a back-up generator that served emergency branch circuits and equipment. New energy efficient lighting was provided throughout the addition and remodel. Exterior canopy lighting was furnished under the drive-up areas.
A new Fire Alarm system was installed to monitor the entire building and tied into the existing building. A new nurse call system was installed to monitor Step-down and Post Op areas.
