Our Rapid City office is currently working with Chamberlin Architects to remodel 14 restrooms at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to meet ADA requirements. A popular event center, the Civic Center draws millions of visitors each year, and is working diligently to update the facility to accommodate various needs.
The restroom remodel includes ADA modifications, which requires alterations to restroom layout. The new layout will mean the demolition of select plumbing fixtures and reinstallation in new locations. Lavatories that are not ADA compliant will be removed, and new counters with integral sinks installed.
We were also able to take advantage of the remodel electrically, designing plans to upgrade to new LED lighting, which provides both better lighting and energy efficiency. Additionally, existing lighting controls are being reused to the extent possible, but other electrical work involves power to water closets and urinals, as well as modifications needed for demolition of walls.
This project was recently put out for construction bids, which are currently being evaluated and the project is expected to be awarded to a contractor in 2016.
