West Plains Holds Annual Design Conference

Each year, our team gets together for a three-day summit to learn, grow, reflect and have a bit of fun. In September 2018, we converged on the Arrowwood Cedar Shores Resort and Conference Center in Oacoma, SD. In addition to internal education on current trends in mechanical and electrical design, as well as engineer-led presentations covering some of our more unique projects from the past year, we also welcomed several guests.

Deirdre Gilmore of TankGirl Marketing joined us from Phoenix to lead a workshop on “Client Meetings & Project Pursuit Strategies”. A Certified Professional Services Marketer with more than 20 years in the AEC industry, she instructed our group on best practices and landmines in business development, and gave greater reality to the training through several actual client simulations. We were fortunate to have three real clients participate in the activities and give feedback, including retired South Dakota Office of the State Engineer representative Rich Ivey, P.E.; Stone Group Architect Principal Todd Stone, AIA; and Rapid City Regional Airport Executive Director Patrick Dame.
