West Plains Engineering was recently a recipient of a 2017 Excellence in Energy Efficient Design Award, which was announced during the AIA-Iowa Annual Convention in September.

The program recognizes outstanding efforts by architecture and engineering firms in reducing energy use, and candidates are selected from projects whose designers participated in the Commercial New Construction program offered by Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy and MidAmerican Energy Company.

West Plains was recognized, along with architecture firm FEH Design, for the Northwest Iowa Community College Applied Technology Building in Sheldon, IA. This project involved a new  23,000 square foot building to support several of the vocational programs on the campus, including large classrooms, full scale vehicle bays and repair shops perfectly suited to tech ed instruction.

The building was selected for achieving a 76 percent annual kBTU savings – the highest of any project awarded this year.

Congratulations to the following engineers who designed the mechanical and electrical systems for the project:

Wade Myrabo, P.E. (Mechanical)
Dustin Torguson (Mechanical)
Mike Fisher, P.E. (Electrical)
Gary Lyngen (Electrical)
